August Adventures!

Starting August with another Kids Acting performance, this time Tangled! Allie played the role of Young Rapunzel and a rowdy townsman!

I couldn't get a picture of her as Young Rapunzel but Allie wasn't feeling her Rapunzel hair, "I was not made to be a blonde!"

Happy 15th Anniversary to us!

We've been lucky enough to have an annual end of summer vacation where we head somewhere with cooler temperatures (at least cooler than Austin) for a getaway with just the 4 of us! This year we visited Park City, Utah. 

We got in late on Friday night and early Saturday morning headed to the Utah Olympic Park. It was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and hosted the bobsled, skeleton, luge, ski jump and Nordic combined events. It is now a museum of sorts for the 2002 Olympics but to U.S. Skiing, has adventure activities and is a U.S. Olympics training facility.  

Jake and Alex went to try out the adventure activities for our daredevil, Jake. Allie and I toured the museum and went on a cool park tour.

We had lunch at the Viking Yurt at the top of the mountain.

Alex arranged for a private yoga class for me and it was wonderful!

Then we headed to explore Jordanelle State Park.

Jake and Alex rented kayaks and then I took a turn!

 We mastered the handstand in the pool! A major vacation accomplishment!

Last day with some breakfast, mini-golf, jumping and then we headed to Salt Lake and the airport.

We had a few hours in Salt Lake City before our flight. We headed to a museum when we spotted signs for Dave & Busters so who needs culture! The kids were much more excited about that so we started walking towards it. As we walked to D&B,  we saw the Dreamscapes pop-up exhibit so Allie and I decided to check it out instead. The "flippy wall" clearly was intriguing!

Every room was different and curated by a different artist!

One of the funniest moments was when Allie walked into Lite-Brite room and loudly says, "what the heck is this thing?" The few other people in the room laughed. She loved the Lite Bright and  wants a giant one for our house too. 

What an awesome find! So glad we stopped to check it out!

Back in Austin in time for Meet-the-Teacher Day at Hill. Allie has a great teacher in Ms. Huang (English/Language Arts) and Ms. Nguyen (Math/Science). We're excited for 2nd grade!

At the end of the first week of school, we all made a last-minute trip to Oregon to spend some time with Bubba! It was wonderful to have everyone together. For more about Bubba click here.

 Hard to say if Kirby is becoming more Allie-like or if Allie is becoming more Kirby-like!

Half-way to Dallas we hit some traffic and were literally hit. We both were okay at the onset but my car, not so much. You can't tell from this picture but we were hit from the back and then pushed into the car in front of us.😧

We decided we weren't going to let this stop us so we got a rental car and continued on. We were okay to start but I have some whiplash and Jake had a minor concussion. Not fun but thankfully we were (mostly) okay! 

We made it to Dallas ready to cheer on our Ducks!

Game over. We didn't like the outcome but had the best time anyhow. That is until Uber and Lyft went into major price gauging-mode (an $18 ride to the stadium on Lyft was over $100 at the end of the game), thankful for Taxi cabs that night!

Time with this guy (even tired and a little over it all) is priceless!
